It’s Still the Latency, Stupid…pt.1

"Using a cable connection a ping to www.google.com in Mountain View, CA
from my house (137 KM) yields an average ping time (aka round-trip time or
RTT) of 73ms. The theoretical latency for this distance (round trip) is 1.37ms
meaning my cable connection is roughly 50 times worse than the theoretical
limit."

SO - Why is Internet access and Wi-Fi always so terrible at large
tech conferences?

"Every tech conference I've ever been to, and I've been to a lot, has had
absolutely abysmal Wi-Fi and Internet access"

cso - DDoS explained: How denial of service attacks are evolving

"In early 2000, Canadian high school student Michael Calce, a.k.a. MafiaBoy,
whacked Yahoo! with a distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack that
managed to shut down one of the leading web powerhouses of the time. Over
the course of the week that followed, Calce took aim, and successfully
disrupted, other such sites as Amazon, CNN and eBay."
