wired - Clayton Christensen Wants to Transform Capitalism

"Sixteen years ago a book by Clayton Christensen changed business think-
ing forever. The Innovator’s Dilemma looked at industries ranging from disk
drives to steel to mechanical excavators and exposed a surprising pheno-
menon: When big companies fail, it’s often not because they do something
wrong but because they do everything right."

forbes.com - The Highest-Paid CEOs Are The Worst Performers, New Study Says

"How could this be? In a word, overconfidence. CEOs who get paid huge
amounts tend to think less critically about their decisions. “They ignore dis-
confirming information and just think that they’re right,” says Cooper."

iDoneThis Blog - 95% of Managers Follow an Outdated Theory of Motivation

"The most important motivator for employees at work is what Amabile and
Kramer call “the power of small wins“: employees are highly productive and
driven to do their best work when they feel as if they’re making progress
every day toward a meaningful goal."

My startup failed, and this is what it feels like…
We had users and traction, then we fell off a cliff. My 4 year emotional rollercoaster just came to an end.

bloomberg - Apple Suppliers Shunned as GT Bankruptcy Sparks Selloff

"There’s more risk out there,” said Scott Colyer, chief executive officer of
Monument, Colorado-based Advisors Asset Management Inc., which over-
sees more than $15 billion. “It’s like the cockroach theory. There’s never
one cockroach. You see a cockroach, you know there’s a ton of them in
the walls."

yadayadayadaecon.com - The Economics of Seinfeld

"It is the simplicity of Seinfeld that makes it so appropriate for use in eco-
nomics courses. Using these clips (as well as clips from other television
shows or movies) makes economic concepts come alive, making them
more real for students. Ultimately, students will start seeing economics
everywhere - in other TV shows, in popular music, and most importantly,
in their own lives"

ynetnews.com - How did American Jews get so rich?

"Since the mass immigration some 100 years ago, Jews have become richest
religious group in American society. They make up only 2% of US population,
but 25% of 400 wealthiest Americans. How did it happen, and how crucial is
their aid to Israel?"

Dr. Mary C. McDonald - A Price Worth Paying

"In every field of human endeavor, he that is first must perpetually live
in the white light of publicity. Whether the leadership is vested in a man
or in a manufactured product, emulation and envy are ever at work. In
art, in literature, in music, in industry, the reward and the punishment are
always the same. The reward is widespread recognition; the punishment,
fierce denial and detraction. When a man's work becomes a standard for
the whole world, it also becomes a target for the shafts of the envious
few."

daringfireball - Courage

"When we think of controversial decisions, we tend to think of both sides as
creating controversy. Choose A and the B proponents will be angry; choose
B and the A proponents will be angry. But when it comes to controversial
change of the status quo, it's not like that. Only the people who are opposed
to the change get outraged. Leave things as they are and there is no
controversy. The people who aren't outraged by the potential change are
generally ambivalent about it, not in a fervor for it. Strong feelings against
change on one side, and widespread ambivalence on the other. That's why
the status quo is generally so slow to change, in fields ranging from politics
to technology."

rafaelkino - Capitalism is failing

"If you have a decent paying job in a developed country, those needs are
pretty much fulfilled. It's the rest of the pyramid that we are now making
products for. The problem with that is simple: consumers have no idea about
their psychological needs, and can be easily manipulated into thinking they
need something when they actually don't. That wasn't as true for physical
products."

https://old.reddit.com/r/science/comments/decdk9/politicians_with_greater_openness_to_experience/

Politicians with greater openness to experience were less likely to win elections compared to unsuccessful rivals, suggests new Canadian study (n=3,328). People who are open to new ideas may not be as great at sticking to their political messages, and consistency in messaging is important to voters.

I think it's from the move Religulous where Bill Maher says, 'I refuse to trust anyone who is just so damned sure of something.'

People love confidence because 95% of them have none.
If you walk into a room of strangers and just start telling them what to do, at least 80% will do it because they assume you are a) an authority figure and b) knowledgeable and qualified to direct them. Most of them won't even ask questions.
And as long as you act confident, they'll go along with you.
But if you start waffling or asking them what they think you should do next, the spell will be broken and they will see you as fallible.
