nyt - Conquest Is for Losers
"And so they viewed Russian adventurism with admiration and envy. They
may have claimed to be alarmed by Russian advances, to believe that Mr.
Putin, “what you call a leader,” was playing chess to President Obama’s
marbles. But what really bothered them was that Mr. Putin was living the
life they’d always imagined for themselves." |

r - The Prince by Machiavelli - Why It Is Still So Relevant Today
"It must be considered that there is nothing more difficult to carry out nor
more doubtful of success nor more dangerous to handle than to initiate a
new system; for the reformer has enemies in all those who profit by the old
system, and only lukewarm defenders in all those who would profit by the
new system; this lukewarmness arising partly from the incredulity of man-
kind who does not truly believe in anything new until they actually have
experience of it." |

"Now going back to OP's question: Sun Tzu was saying a general should plan a
battle militarily, politically, and diplomatically, in order to win the battle.

youtube - Billion Dollar Base: Army Base in Afghanistan | Free Documentary
"Billion Dollar Base: Dismantling Camp Bastion tells the story of the team
dismantling the British Army base in Afghanistan. For eight years it's been the
powerhouse of UK and US military operations. Now Britain's biggest overseas
base since World War II is closing down for good. This documentary was given
exclusive access to the men and women whose job it was to pack up this giant
jigsaw puzzle, ending one of the longest wars in British history" |
