"In the paper the Scenario is mostly same with what actually happens. Sars
coronavirus from south east Asia comes via Two People to germany. What
german goverment will do. Impact on industrys, people and so on. Numbers
for you: day 180 After first infection, 4.000.000 people simoltanously sick,
healthcare Collapse if Epidemic measures are from the beginning are
implemented. Without 7.500.000 sick. Day 800 or so deaths around 7.500.000.

r - The WHO sent 25 international experts to China and here are their main findings after 9 days

"The most common symptoms are fever (88%) and dry cough (68%). Exhaust-
ion (38%), expectoration of mucus when coughing (33%), shortness of breath
(18%), sore throat (14%), headaches (14%), muscle aches (14%), chills
(11%) are also common. Less frequent are nausea and vomiting (5%), stuffy
nose (5%) and diarrhoea (4%). Running nose is not a symptom of Covid."

r - First-hand tips from Wuhan

"Hellu friends! These are just some things off the top of my head that I
thought would be helpful in case your city goes into lockdown. I wish things
won't ever get bad enough for you to come back here for reference but just
in case they do, here are some things that might be helpful!

- Have a system in place

Work out a system, coordinate w your neighbours how everyone will get
food/necessities when the quarantine begins. This might mean a couple of
things

i) Have volunteers. These are the people who will coordinate/facilitate stuff
so everyones needs will be met. For example, my grandfather is diabetic,
but we can't go to the chemist to get his meds. So, we take photos of his
prescription, send them to one of the volunteers, who will then collate
requests from other residents and visit the chemist to help get meds on
everyones behalf.

ii) Organise pickups like the one in the video. You can see the volunteers
have a list and they're calling out numbers and the resident w the
corresponding number comes forward to pick up his groceries. But this is
just the final step. Every building has a representative, each household tells
that rep how many people there are in their household. Rep reports to
volunteers, volunteers collect food from vendors, pack them, assign
numbers to package and residents, call around 10 residents down to collect
at a time...

These are just some examples of what's going on in my own neighbourhood.
Don't have to do what we do but point is, talk to your neighbours
beforehand and come up w a system that works for you.

Also, be nice to volunteers and don't request ridiculous stuff. They're not
your errand boy. They've given up their time to help so don't be an ass. i.e.
don(t haggle w the volunteers. They're not the ones setting the price and if
they tell you can only get 1kg of flour, don't ask for 213g and start yelling at
them when they tell you that's not possible... Some people also requested
for alcohol like bruh... we just trynna stay alive now so maybe get pissed
after this blows over

- Plan for your pets!!!

i) Leave your precious cattos at the doggy daycare (but like for cats idk what
it's called) or at a friends even if you're only going away for a weekend. They
literally announced the lockdown one day before it kicked in so people who
were away couldn't possibly make it back in time to make appropriate
arrangements for their pets. Thank goodness my friend left her cats at the
daycare before she left wuhan cuz she still isn't able to come back yet. Many
people have already lost their cats it's really sad.

ii) Don't forget about stocking up for you pets! Food, cat litter, medication
etcetc

- Leave your outerwear outside

i) If you really do have to go out, try to wear the same coat/shoes and don't
bring them back into the house. Or if you really have to, take them straight
to the wash. On top of masks, people wear disposable rain ponchos, shoe
covers, gloves. Take them off at the door and dispose of them properly
before going into your house. Also, what my mum does is, she will call me to
let me know she'll be home in 5 mins, I'll then take a new set of clothes and
fresh towel for her and leave them in the bathroom. Once she's home, she
can go straight to the shower and wouldn't need to walk around the house
looking for a change of clothes and stuff.

- Don't use cash

Cuz cash iz nasty!! Or at least try not to if possible. You don't know who has
touched it before. It's easy in china since most people already use wechat
pay/Alipay even in normal times. Also, on a similar note, make sure you
have enough money in your bank account for bills. We pay for
electricity/water/gas/internet thru their apps but if you don't alr do that
maybe set one up so they won't be cut during the quarantine when you can't
physically go out to pay.

- Disinfect often (esp your phone!)

Even if you wash your hands every 5 mins if you never disinfect your phone,
there's really no point. If you're just staying in it's still not too bad you
maybe get away w wiping down your phone w alcohol wipes every week or
so but if you're still out and about please disinfect your phone like everyday.

- Stay active

In the event that your city really goes into lockdown for an indefinite amount
of time, try to stay active even if it's just walking around the house. It's a
stressful time ngl and maybe you just want to stay in bed all day but you'll
feel much better if you actually did something I'm serious. I don't think I
have to go in depth about the benefits of exercise on your mental health I'm
sure everyone knows so this is really just a reminder to please stay active.
It'll really help w the anxiety and stress. There are heaps of things to do like
yoga and whatnot so just hop onto youtube and get moving!"

I think most people aren't aware of the risk of systemic healthcare
failure due to #COVID19 because they simply haven't run the numbers
yet. Let's talk math.

"As COVID19 cases saturate virtually every state and county, which seems
likely to happen any day now, it will soon be irresponsible for all HCWs to not
wear a mask. These HCWs would burn through N95 stockpile in 2 days if each
HCW only got ONE mask per day."

https://old.reddit.com/r/China_Flu/comments/ff1kp0/an_expert_on_the_1918_spanish_flu_epidemic_about/

An expert on the 1918 Spanish Flu epidemic (about 50-100 million people
died) wrote an article 2 yrs ago on lessons of why that outbreak was so
deadly. His conclusion: govt officials, desperate to keep morale up during
WWI, didn't tell the truth. And because the govt lied, more people died.

r -Testimony of a Surgeon working in Bergamo, the heart of the Coronavirus outbreak in Italy.

"Because that's the difference (now I get a little technical): in classical flu,
besides that it infects much less population over several months, cases are
complicated less frequently: only when the virus has destroyed the
protective barriers of our airways and as such it allows bacteria (which
normally resident in the upper airways) to invade the bronchi and lungs,
causing a more serious disease. Covid 19 causes a banal flu in many young
people, but in many elderly people (and not only) a real SARS because it
invades the alveoli of the lungs directly, and it infects them making them
unable to perform their function. The resulting respiratory failure is often
serious and after a few days of hospitalization, the simple oxygen that can
be administered in a ward may not be enough. Sorry, but to me, as a doctor,
it's not reassuring that the most serious are mainly elderly people with other
pathologies. The elderly population is the most represented in our country
and it is difficult to find someone who, above 65 years of age, does not take
at least a pill for high blood pressure or diabetes."

Worth noting that the Chinese numbers were not so different for severe/critical. For example the 15-49 age group accounted for 41%:
https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMoa2002032
The reason people think it's just old people is that nearly all age breakdowns focus on the mortality rate with hospital care, rather than the ICU rate.

Why Telling People They Don't Need Masks Backfired

"Now that we are facing a respirator mask shortage, the federal Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention is recommending that surgical masks are 'an
acceptable alternative' for health care workers - again, obviously because
some protection, even if imperfect, is better than none. In the face of this,
publicly presenting an absolute answer - 'You don't need them' - for
something that requires a qualified response just makes people trust
authorities even less."

"The N95 mask itself is extremely wonderful. The pores in the mask are three
microns wide. The virus is one micron wide. So you get people who say, well,
it's not going to work. But you try having three big, huge football players who
are rushing for lunch through a door at lunchtime -- they're not going to get
through. In the latest data I saw, the mask provided 5x protection. That's
really good. But we have to keep the hospitals going and we have to keep the
health professionals able to come to work and be safe. So masks should go
where they're needed the most: in taking care of patients."

What you need to know about surgical masks, N95 respirators and coronavirus

"Buying respirators online is a gamble because shoppers cannot confirm
whether they are built to the correct standards. Sellers on Amazon may
use deceptive keywords to get people to buy respirators that are not as

The U.K. backed off on herd immunity. To beat COVID-19, we'll ultimately need it

"Finally, a team at Imperial informing the government's response put up-to-
date COVID-19 data into the historical models that the UK plan was based on
Imperial-College-COVID19-NPI-modelling-16-03-2020.pdf, and predicted in a
best case scenario 250,000 deaths and excess of 8x surge capacity of UK
intensive cares. They concluded that our approach was wrong, and that
Epidemic suppression is the only viable strategy at the current time"

On the 8th day, my condition deteriorated extremely rapidly, roughly 3 hours. Experienced shortness of breath. Also the mucus lining of my trachea felt like it was stripped off. Breathing burned. And every breath felt like it wasn't enough.

If I tried exerting myself in any way, including mentally, the symptoms would get worse and the shortness of breath would return. Even as I type this comment, I'm making a conscious effort to be slow and methodical. The symptoms also got worse when eating. I attribute this to my body reserving energy for immune defense (thinking and digesting are both energy intensive).

"In 1918, there was an anti-mask league in San Francisco, which objected to
wearing masks to prevent the spread of influenza. They held meetings of
thousands of maskless people. San Francisco was ultimately was one of the

guardian - Revealed: the inside story of the UK's Covid-19 crisis

"The day after the 2 March Cobra meeting and SPI-M statement, Johnson held
the first televised press conference with Vallance and Chris Whitty, the chief
medical officer. Whitty did say solemnly that a worst-case scenario estimated
80% of people could become infected, and 1% of those could die, but the
message best remembered is Johnson joshingly telling the nation: 'I was at a
hospital the other night where I think there were actually a few coronavirus
patients and I shook hands with everybody.'"

sciencemag - Finally, a virus got me

Scientist who fought Ebola and HIV reflects on facing death from COVID-19

"After fighting viruses all over the world for more than 40 years, I have
become an expert in infections. I'm glad I had corona and not Ebola, although
I read a scientific study yesterday that concluded you have a 30% chance of
dying if you end up in a British hospital with COVID-19. That's about the same
overall mortality rate as for Ebola in 2014 in West Africa. That makes you lose
your scientific level-headedness at times, and you surrender to emotional
reflections. They got me, I sometimes thought. I have devoted my life to
fighting viruses and finally, they get their revenge. For a week I balanced
between heaven and Earth, on the edge of what could have been the end."

telegraph.co.uk - Has the British scientific establishment made its biggest error in history?

"Government advisers became over-reliant on models that were both too
complex and too simplistic at the same time, and failed to challenge under-
lying assumptions. The Imperial College model does not take into account
high variability in social connectedness or susceptibility to infection among
otherwise similar people. We now know that about 10pc of 'superspreaders'
cause 80% of infections, primarily because they meet many more people -
which also makes them much more likely to become infected."

r - Lower cognitive ability linked to non-compliance with social distancing guidelines during the coronavirus outbreak

"The study found that the most relevant mental ability was working memory.
What's that?

Working memory is a limited capacity store for retaining information for a
brief period while performing mental operations on that information. Working
memory is a multi-component system which includes the central executive,
visuospatial sketchpad, phonological loop, and episodic buffer. Working
memory is important for reasoning, learning and comprehension. Working
memory theories assume that complex reasoning and learning tasks require
a mental workspace to hold and manipulate information.
https://www.simplypsychology.org/working%20memory.html

What about fluid intelligence, which was mentioned in the news article?

Fluid intelligence indexes people's ability to identify the underlying rules or
concepts in novel problem-solving domains (Cattell, 1963; Horn, 1968). As
Cattell stated, 'Fluid general ability ... shows more in tests requiring
adaptation to new situations, where crystallized skills [domain-specific
knowledge] are of no particular advantage'
https://www.sciencedirect.com/topics/psychology/fluid-intelligence

Working memory can change. For example, aging seems to weaken this
ability."

biomedcentral - Body temperature correlates with mortality in COVID-19 patients

"Importantly, patients presenting with BT ≤ 36C had the highest mortality
(26.5%, P = 0.003 relative to 36C < BT ≤ 37C), and this became even higher
when the analysis was restricted to those with BT ≤ 35.5C (44%), indicating
low body temperature at the initial presentation is a marker of poor prognosis."

wbur - Pandemic Has 'Fat Tail' With More Superspreading Events Than Expected, MIT Study Finds

Policy-wise, I would say that our work suggests imposing a tight limit of around
10 people in a gathering. And actually, when we did a mathematical simulation
of this, a simulation in which everyone was limited to at most ten contacts, we
found out COVID would have rapidly died down."

r - Doctors Are Calling It Quits Under Stress of the Pandemic

"I'm a respiratory therapist working the covid ICU at my facility. Let me tell
you, it's wearing on us. Hard. My sanity is unraveling. We need help. I
personally will be seeking therapy soon. It's negatively impacting every
single area of my life.

I often fantasize about getting into an accident on the way to work so I don't
have to go. Or thinking about flushing my entire life down the drain, quitting
my job, moving back home. Being broke and hungry with no place to call my
own still seems better than going to work.

The insult to injury is just what you said. People scoffing at masks, laughing
at/disregarding the experts, etc.

Just tonight, I had the pleasure of caring for a COVID POSITIVE patient, in
the COVID ICU, STRUGGLING to breath, telling me she 'knows this whole
thing is a hoax to wreck Trumps presidency'. I'm just... sad. And tired."

but even without that the breakdown and high level explanation of the different

r - Reverse Engineering Source Code of the Biontech Pfizer Vaccine: Part 2

"The beginning of the process started with someone dropping the virus into
a RNA reader, which converted the RNA code into bytes on a disk.

Then scientists read and interpreted the code (more computer assistance)
and figured out which bits were harmless but characteristic.

Then the code got loaded to a RNA printer. The printed RNA gets loaded into
injections bundled up with nanoparticles that can get through your cell walls
(basically an artificial virus of our own).

This RNA then hijacks our own cellular processes in the same fashion as the
actual virus. These processes translate RNA into protein.

Our body detects this protein and thinks it's under attack, and sets up to
defend against the invaders. Then when the real virus comes, it's ready."

vitamind4all.org - Over 100 Scientists, Doctors, & Leading Authorities
Call For Increased Vitamin D Use To Combat COVID-19

"Evidence to date suggests the possibility that the COVID-19 pandemic
sustains itself in large part through infection of those with low vitamin D,
and that deaths are concentrated largely in those with deficiency. The mere
possibility that this is so should compel urgent gathering of more vitamin D
data. Even without more data, the preponderance of evidence indicates that
increased vitamin D would help reduce infections, hospitalizations, ICU
admissions, & deaths."

Y - 'When will it end?': How a changing virus is reshaping scientists' views on COVID-19

"Murray had until recently been hopeful that the discovery of several effective
vaccines could help countries achieve herd immunity, or nearly eliminate
transmission through a combination of inoculation and previous infection.

But in the last month, data from a vaccine trial in South Africa showed not
only that a rapidly-spreading coronavirus variant could dampen the effect of
the vaccine, it could also evade natural immunity in people who had been

covid-datascience.com - Israeli data: How can efficacy vs. severe
disease be strong when 60% of hospitalized are vaccinated?

"However, while these numbers are true, to quote them as evidence for low
vaccine efficacy is wrong and misleading. Sometimes, with observational data
there is confounding of multiple factors that can make it easy to misinterpret
simple percentages like this, and the current vaccination situation in Israel
brings a perfect storm of confounding factors that lead to confusion if not
thought through carefully."

"Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS) is a form of dysautonomia,
which is an umbrella term used to describe several medical conditions that
cause the autonomic nervous system to malfunction. The autonomic nervous
system controls the body's 'automatic' functions, such as heart rate, blood
pressure, digestion, kidney function, and temperature control."

1 - Lie down for at least 2 minutes. Take BP/heart rate.
2 - Sit up for 2 minutes. Take BP/heart rate.

The differences between those are not deterministic, but can be useful for
