Old rare photo frozen Niagara Falls 1911
"The American Falls have frozen over on six occasions since the keeping
of records began. Each were attributed to ice jams that have actually
curtailed the flow of the American Falls to mere trickles." |

A Lenticular Cloud Over Hawai'i
"Normally, air moves much more horizontally than it does vertically.
Sometimes, however, such as when wind comes off of a mountain or a hill,
relatively strong vertical oscillations take place as the air stabilizes. The dry
air at the top of an oscillation may be quite stratified in moisture content,
and hence forms clouds at each layer where the air saturates with moisture.
The result can be a lenticular cloud with a strongly layered appearance. " |

Death Valley, California
It is a multispectral map, not an actual picture of the ground. This image is
compiled from observations by the Enhanced Thematic Mapper Plus sensor.
Description of the picture.
"It got it's name from some pioneers who went on an unfortunate adventure
through the area. Also, it's flipping hot there in the summer. The hottest
recorded temperature in the US of 134F was set there in 1913.
That and it's below sea level. Desert + high air pressure + low rainfall = DEATH" |

Incredible High-Res image of Earth from Space in winter 04'
"Obviously, this isn't a photograph of the Earth. It's a computer-generated
image derived from spectroscopy and photography data captured over a
span of many days to get cloud-free observations of as much of the Earth
as possible. The colors are simulated and the data can be projected however
you want." |

Reddit: A landlocked aircraft carrier in China (maps.google.com)
"Wow, that's weird. I was there a couple of years ago. My daughter and
her cousin had a race on top of that carrier. There is a military style
obstacle course there and a park dedicated to the great scientists of the
world. You can also take a "duck" ride in the lake next to the carrier. It
was a pretty interesting place - mostly empty the day I was there."
And more: Chinese Aircraft Carrier?
"The "ship" itself is of traditional steel-frame building construction, and
is a generic aircraft carrier about 7/8 scale to a Nimitz. Inside are military
displays, exhibition halls, meeting rooms, games, and other attractions,
and on the 'flight deck' there are Chinese military aircraft, such as
helicopters, fighters, and attack planes." |

Reddit: Dubai is nuts! Photos to prove it.
"Dubai has lots of money to burn and have decided to create a world
destination that rivals the likes of Paris, London and New York." |

reddit: Swedish map company launches stunning, 45 degrees high-res maps of Stockholm
"It's not about the technology. Stockholm is perhaps the most beautiful city
in the world. The people are amazingly friendly, the subway is spotless and
almost everyone speaks english very well (very convienient for this traveller).
Even the air is shockingly sweet." |

reddit - The Secret Circle of the Sahara
"The phenomenon sits in barren Northwest African terrain of the Mauritanian
Sahara. A mystery that has intrigued scientists, geologists, astronomists and
laypersons alike since its visual discovery by orbiting astronauts during the
dawn of space travel. Le Guelb er Richat, or the Richat Structure."
