RC: Hiding files is not the same as protecting them
"An example of files that the user has access to but probably shouldn't be
messing with is those desktop.ini files that the shell scatters about the system
to mark various directories and files. These files are marked as "protected
operating system files" because messing with them changes the plumbing
of how Explorer treats those directories." |

forums.macrumors.com - Network file path for mac os
"Anyway, a quick trick is to launch a Terminal window, then navigate to the
file in Finder, and drag-and-drop the file into the finder window. The full path
to the file will appear in the terminal window." |

Slashdot: The Many Paths to Data Corruption
"Linux guru Alan Cox has an writeup on KernelTrap in which he talks about
all the possible ways for data to get corrupted when being written to or read
from a hard disk drive.
This includes much of the information applicable to all operating systems. He
prefaces his comments noting that the details are entirely device specific,
then dives right into a fascinating and somewhat disturbing path tracing
data from the drive, through the cable, into the bus, main memory and
CPU cache.
He also discusses the transfer of data via TCP and cautions, 'unfortunately
lots of high performance people use checksum offload which removes much
of the end to end protection and leads to problems with iffy cards and the
like. This is well studied and known to be very problematic but in the market
speed sells not correctness.'" |

From BFS to ZFS: past, present, and future of file systems
"This article will start off by defining what a file system is and what it does.
Then we'll take a look back at the history of how various file systems evolved
and why new ones were introduced. Finally we'll take a brief glance into our
temporal vortex and see how file systems might change in the future." |

"I created one PDF document which is going to be the help of my application.
Now I want to "link" this help to the program itself. In other terms, I want
that the application calls the pdf reader to open the pdf file when the user
click on the menu help button." |
