The Mac Mojo: Messenger Links
"So the big news from MacBU this week was the release of Messenger for
Mac 6. This was an important release for us because it was our first actual
application that was shipped as a universal binary." |

Erik Schwiebert: Saying goodbye to Visual Basic
"I personally spent several weeks digging into the VB source code to
identify and plan what work would have to be done to move it to Xcode
and make it universal, and I had several long discussions with our
product planning folks to help our group leadership weigh the costs of
doing the VB port vs. the costs of not doing it. I’ll try to lead you through
some of the analysis here." |

MacWorld: Microsoft reveals details of Office 2008 for Mac
"Intel-based Mac owners will have a Universal version of Microsoft’s Office
to call their own later this year. Microsoft’s Macintosh Business Unit revealed
some details about Office 2008 for Mac Tuesday—namely that the suite of
office productivity tools would ship in the second half of 2007.
Office 2004 users are not being left out of the new file formats, either—in
February, Microsoft will release a free beta of the file format converters for
the current version, so users can read and write the new Office Open XML
Formats. Six to eight weeks after Office 2008 for Mac is launched, Microsoft
intends to ship final versions of the converters." |

Birthday Gift for MacBU
"Yesterday, as I walked from the dark parking garage to begin my day of
work, I remembered that we were celebrating MacBU's 10th anniversary!
The clouds were thinning and I looked around to see if perchance, the cloudy
weather would abate, even a little bit for our big party. As I looked up I saw
this: Office Icons built out of stickies from a distance" |

microsoft.public.macintosh.general - Office 2007 for Mac - when?
"The next version for Windows is the 13th. I wonder if the box will have
a black cat on it and be introduced on a Friday the 13th." |

Mac mojo: Get converted
"... as previously promised we're releasing some of this new functionality in
a form that you can start using right away: Beta release #1 of the Microsoft
Office Open XML File Format Converter for Mac is now available for download.
This is a stand-alone Macintosh application that converts .docx documents -
that is, documents saved by Word 2007 for Windows in the Office Open XML file
format - into rich text format (RTF) documents so that they can be automatically
opened in either Word 2004 or Word v.X for Mac OS X." |
