Digg: Linus Torvalds buys Mac mini
"Linus Torvalds has picked up one of Apple's new Intel-based Mac minis
to play with, but the Linux creator still prefers Apple's old PowerPC
architecture for his primary desktop machine." |

Slashdot: Linus Torvalds Speaks Out on Future of Linux
"Linus Torvalds has laid out his plans for the future of Linux, including the 3.0
kernel [there probably won't be one], problems with the Linux release cycles
and which distro he personally runs on his home PC. '"Compile everything by
hand" ones simply weren't interesting to me,' Torvalds says." |

LinusTorvalds: "Linux Is Much Bigger Than Me!"
"Did Microsoft's Men In Black ever met Linus Torvalds? But why is he so critical
of GPLv3? Why does he slam Subversion? What would happen to the kernel
development if he chooses to do something else more important?" |

Slashdot: The Linux Identity Crisis
"If you've been following the current rift in the Linux community between
Linus Torvalds and his minions squaring off against Con Kolivas and the
mainstream Linux fanatics, you probably know that it's getting quite heated.
You also probably know that these two entirely different ideas could create
three possible paths Linux can take for the future: stay geeky and appeal to
the advanced tech guru in all of us; go mainstream and leave the advanced
functionality and reliable kernel behind to compete with Microsoft and Apple;
or face a "civil war" that could lead to total Linux annihilation." |

Slashdot: Is Linus Torvalds Speaking for Linux Anymore?
"if it were up to Torvalds, beauty and intuition would take a backseat to
functionality. But when you look at distributions like Ubuntu or OpenSuse,
it looks like no one is paying attention.
'An OS should never have been something that people (in general) really
care about: it should be completely invisible and nobody should give a
flying [expletive] about it except the technical people.' Sure, that statement
makes some sense, but in the grand scheme of things, it's the design and
usability factor that makes the operating system much easier to use.
And while both Mac OS X and Windows have their issues, for the average
person, it makes more sense to use those than Linux." |

zdnet - The ups and downs of life with Linus
"Linux kernel maintainer Alan Cox has given an insight into the experience of
working with Linus Torvalds, the founder of Linux who maintains its development
kernel.
During a talk last weekend at the Free and Open source Software Developers
European Meeting, FOSDEM, on the challenges of maintaining a stable Linux
kernel, Cox revealed that although Linus is good at developing code, he does
not enjoy some of the other jobs that go along with software development such
as bug fixing and beta testing."
"Linus is a good developer, but is a terrible engineer," said Cox. "I'm sure he
would agree with that." |

reddit - Linus Torvald's rant against C++
"I've come to the conclusion that any programmer that would prefer the
project to be in C++ over C is likely a programmer that I really *would*
prefer to piss off, so that he doesn't come and screw up any project I'm
involved with." |

groups.google.co.uk - What would you like to see most in minix?
"Hello everybody out there using minix -
I'm doing a (free) operating system (just a hobby, won't be big and
professional like gnu) for 386(486) AT clones. This has been brewing
since april, and is starting to get ready." |
