technewsworld.com - Prepare for the Shared Software Tidal Wave
"I was poor. I was desperate. I wanted to be on this bandwagon of this
Internet thing, and I wanted to find a business that wouldn't require large
amounts of bandwidth or large amounts of capital. The key was Linux. It
was Linux that let me connect to the Net so I could start soaking up this
knowledge," said Mark Shuttleworth, founder of Ubuntu Linux. |

Dr. Shuttleworth or; How we learned to stop worrying and love Open Source
"Both Russia and Macedonia have recently announced huge Ubuntu initiatives.
While the revenue to Canonical might not be incredibly significant, the users
are. Developers need installed users to justify deployment on a platform.
Widespread government adoption coupled with Dell's Ubuntu consumer initia-
tives are just two more points which bode well for attracting more commercial
software to a worthy platform." |

guardian.co.uk - Linux is a platform for people, not just specialists
TG: What are the implications of choosing that name?
MS: That this is a platform for people. Linux has come from a tradition of
being a platform for specialists. We articulated the challenge for us very
clearly in our name: "Let's make this something that we can proudly give
out to people who are not passionate about technology." |
