Apple - Introduction to Internationalization Programming Topics

"Rather than rewrite your software for each language you want to support,
you can internationalize it to support any language. Through localization, you
can then translate user-visible text and images that can then be displayed
by your application. This document helps you understand the steps needed
to prepare your application for these processes."

A Practical Guide to Localization, by Bert Esselink.

Packed with lots of useful information and references. Multiplatform, Mac and
Windows, but since it's a book from year 2000, Mac related stuff is about the
Classic Mac OS 9 and not about the new Mac OS X.

MF - Localization of Mac Applications

"It's a good idea to because the link above says 'Strings files encoded using
UTF-8 are not guaranteed to work.' When in doubt, encode the file using UTF-16."

SO - How to determine if currency symbol is to the left or right of
a number on MacOS

"I need to interface with a spreadsheet application which requires me to
pass a number, currency symbol, currency symbol location and padding
instead of a CStringRef created with CFNumberFormatter."

itworld.com - Pet Peeves - Unicode

"Let us start by looking at four main variables in the space : language, country,
culture and technology. Language. Let us take that one first. How hard can
that be? Well, what list of languages do you want to target? Please don't say
"all of them". There is no such thing as a definitive list of languages and even
if there was, the list of languages supported in Unicode changes across various
incarnations of Unicode."

cocoadev.com - LocalizationTips

"Use the command line tool genstrings to automatically create an initial cor-
rectly formatted strings file with comments, keys and values. When you cre-
ate your key for the NSLocalizedString*, make the key also be the value
then you won't need to alter the value for each key for at least one strings
file."

so - iPhone localization with sqlite?

"What happens if the strings you need to localize are in the database? I hav-
en't found discussion of this type of localization. However, I imagine it is ext-
remely common given that many iPhone apps use sqlite."

r - Any free resource/database for localization?

"Apple itself is providing a database/tool (AppleGlot). Visit this link.
And scroll down to 'Localizing Strings Files Using AppleGlot'.

Apple provides localization glossaries. Find more info here."
