readwriteweb.com - Why You Have To Jailbreak the iPhone

"Simply put, "jailbreaking" is a straightforward process that allows you to
install unapproved third-party applications on your device. It is sometimes
confused with "unlocking" - the process that makes the phone capable of
working on other carriers besides AT&T (in the U.S., that is)."

osnews.com - System 7 on the iPhone

"All the credit obviously goes to the guys over at the MacOS iPhone Project.
They plan on releasing the code soon enough, but they want something re-

"Trenutno za 3.0.1 firmware Purplera1n nažalost neradi. Također pošto on
samo služi za JB 3GS-a njega ćemo izostaviti iz ovoga tutoriala."

reddit - I dropped my iPhone in the toilet today. At first it didn't work
properly. Now it does. Phew!

"... I could not hear a single thing he said. I soon learned that my text mes-
sage & e-mail notification sounds & iPod didn't work either. I was crestfallen.
Once home I tried blowing the phone dry, but my efforts were futile."

Wired - Jailbreakers Battle Apple for Control of iPhone

"When he was 17, George Hotz poured hundreds of hours of his summer
vacation into a special project: learning the iPhone’s secrets. His unpaid
labor eventually paid off. With the help of a soldering iron, he was the first
to unlock the iPhone, delivering the handset to international networks be-
fore Apple had a chance to."

Slashdot: Hacker Teaches iPhone Forensics To Police

"The Mercury News reports that former hacker Jonathan Zdziarski has been
tapped by law-enforcement agencies nationwide to teach them just how mu-
ch information is stored in iPhones - and how to get it. 'These devices are
people's companions today,' says Zdziarski. 'They're not mobile phones any-
more. They organize people's lives. And if you're doing something criminal,
something about it is probably going to go through that phone.' For example,
every time an iPhone user closes out of the built-in mapping application, the
phone snaps a screenshot and stores it. Savvy law-enforcement agents ar-
med with search warrants can use those snapshots to see if a suspect is lying
about whereabouts during a crime."

thenextweb.com - Cydia and Jailbreak apps: The ecosystem, developers
and increasing revenues

"Many apps, tweaks and settings on Cydia are free but developers also have
the capability to charge for their applications with Freeman introducing a
simple payment system in March 2009, taking a 30% cut on any app
purchase made via the Cydia Store. As demand for iOS devices continued to
grow, prompting an increase in users wanting to remove restrictions from
their devices, the best apps were quickly identified and developers began to
price their creations in order to profit from their tweaks.

By April 2011, Cydia had $10 million in annual revenue and 4.5 million
weekly users, leaving Saurik’s company SaurikIT with $250,000 in profit
after taxes annually."

The Engadget - The Engadget Interview: Dr. Charlie Miller

"Last week, this came to a head, as Miller created a controversial proof of
concept application that both proved the existence of an iOS security hole as
well as got him expelled from the App Store's developer network. Given that
he's driven Apple Inc. somewhat nuts over the past few years, we sat down
with the good doctor to see how he felt about Apple, iOS, security, technolo-
gy, sandboxing, the pros and cons of modern security and the ups and do-
wns of one of the weirdest career paths for any aspiring technologist today."
