windowsteamblog.com - Why 7?

"So we decided to ship the Windows 7 code as Windows 6.1 - which is what
you will see in the actual version of the product in cmd.exe or computer
properties."

i-programmer - WinRT - the new Windows

"When you create a Page object with WinRT and run it then it expands to
fill the entire screen real estate - there are no overlapping windows, just
as there are no overlapping windows on a mobile phone. If you want over-
lapping windows and dialog boxes you need to stay on the desktop. In a
sense: Metro takes the windows out of Windows."

thenextweb - Microsoft releases tool for converting old software to modern Windows 10 apps

"At Build 2016, Microsoft announced the Desktop App Converter, a tool that
would allow developers to convert classic Windows programs into modern
Universal Windows Platform(UWP) apps.

A preview version is now available to download. As expected, it supports both
.NET and Win32 apps, which it can convert to AppX packages that support any
UWP API."

r - How Microsoft Vaporized a Trillion Dollars

"Honestly, I think a lot of it is dictated by the board/Sataya; albeit I guess
Blamer was considered old guard as well

As soon as they fired all of the test engineers and pushed that work onto
everyone else without ever changing schedules or budgets meant that this was
inevitable, the first instance out of many instances of increasing dissonance.

I was never on the Azure side, but holy hell, its almost a verbatim copy of what
I experienced - you just have to change the org names and product names."

"Yeah, I was at Microsoft under Ballmer and the engineering was the best I
had ever experienced. It's just management was insane. No fixing bugs.
Ignoring fundamental features chasing flashy features that were immediately
abandoned. Musical chairs reorgs every 6 months."
