Massive Security Vulnerability In HTC Android Devices (EVO 3D,
4G, Thunderbolt, Others) Exposes Phone Numbers, GPS, SMS,
Emails Addresses, Much More
"In recent updates to some of its devices, HTC introduces a suite of logging
tools that collected information. Lots of information. LOTS. Whatever the
reason was, whether for better understanding problems on users' devices,
easier remote analysis, corporate evilness - it doesn't matter." |

theunderstatement.com - Android Orphans: Visualizing a Sad History
of Support
"I went back and found every Android phone shipped in the United States
up through the middle of last year. I then tracked down every update that
was released for each device - be it a major OS upgrade or a minor sup-
port patch - as well as prices and release & discontinuation dates. I com-
pared these dates & versions to the currently shipping version of Android
at the time. The resulting picture isn’t pretty - well, not for Android users." |

Slashdot: Android Orphans: a Sad History of Platform Abandonment
"My wife has never upgraded her HTC Aria to the current OS, while I have.
Why hasn't she??? THERE WAS NO NEED TO. Jeez people, get over it.
I don't care about having the latest/greatest Android OS, but I wish the
carriers were required to provide warranty support for the full 2 year term
of your contract.
What does a new version of Android do that an older version couldn't? It's
not like you're missing a whole lot with an older version of Android,
especially considering that most apps out there aren't version specific.
The people who are just buying phones that they can use to 1) play angry
birds, 2) get better updated GPS built in and 3) talk on the phone and send
txt messages don't care about getting the updated OS.
Updates are a bonus, not a guarantee."
In other words, Android users didn't care about upgrades up till now so
they will not get any updates in the future. |

Slashdot: CarrierIQ: Most Phones Ship With "Rootkit"
"According to a developer on the XDA forums, TrevE, many Android, No-
kia, and BlackBerry smartphones have software called Carrier IQ that al-
lows your carrier full access into your handset, including keylogging, which
apps have been run, URLs that have been loaded in the browser, etc."
reddit - CIQ - The Rootkit Of All Evil - pre-installed on MANY Android
phones
"Wait, what?
How about a more coherent TL;DR about the article? I don't understand. :|
I own a SGS2, bought and using it here in Croatia. Do I have CIQ? Should
I be worried?" |

slashdot - Android Update Alliance Already Struggling
"Earlier this year many Android phone vendors and U.S. wireless carriers
made a long-awaited promise, which was to push timely OS updates to all
new Android phones. Seven months in and especially with the release of
Google Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich), PCMag decided to reach out to
all those vendors and wireless carriers to see how things were coming a-
long. Brace yourselves Android fans, you're not going to like the responses." |

Believe it or not, I actually don’t hate Android. That is to say, I don’t hate the concept of Android — in fact, at one point, I loved it. What I hate is what Android has become. And more specifically, what Google has done with Android.

reuters - Google list of paid bloggers not sufficient, judge says
"Google suggests that it has paid so many commenters that it will be im-
