r - Women who have done, or are doing nude modeling...
"Women who have done, or are doing nude modeling, stripping, camshows,
porn, prostitution, etc. (jobs primarily aimed at pleasing men sensually or
sexually), how has your view of men changed from before you started this
work, to now?" |

gawker - Justine Sacco Is Good at Her Job, and How I Came To Peace With Her
"Ergo, tweeting that thought would be an ironic statement, a joke, the opposi-
te of what it seemed to say. Not knowing anything about her, I had taken its
cluelessness at face value, and hundreds of thousands of people had done the
same—instantly hating her because it's easy and thrilling to hate a stranger
online." |

r - LPT request: How to not be such a procrastinating, lazy fuck
"So to avoid procrastinating, I started making a conscious effort to recognize
and remind myself that even though I might not want to do these things in
the moment, they are ultimately the things that give me a sense of accomp-
lishment and happiness in the long term." |

daringfireball - Courage
"When we think of controversial decisions, we tend to think of both sides as
creating controversy. Choose A and the B proponents will be angry; choose
B and the A proponents will be angry. But when it comes to controversial
change of the status quo, it's not like that. Only the people who are opposed
to the change get outraged. Leave things as they are and there is no
controversy. The people who aren't outraged by the potential change are
generally ambivalent about it, not in a fervor for it. Strong feelings against
change on one side, and widespread ambivalence on the other. That's why
the status quo is generally so slow to change, in fields ranging from politics
to technology." |

quora - What will the iPhone 8 be made of?
"The journey Apple has taken to adopt Zirconia Ceramic as the their
fundamental design material translates like an epic movie plot. We will
begin at the end." |

rafaelkino - Capitalism is failing
"If you have a decent paying job in a developed country, those needs are
pretty much fulfilled. It's the rest of the pyramid that we are now making
products for. The problem with that is simple: consumers have no idea about
their psychological needs, and can be easily manipulated into thinking they
need something when they actually don't. That wasn't as true for physical
products." |

jamf - Debate over: IBM confirms that Macs are $535 less expensive than PCs
"In 2015, IBM let their employees decide - Windows or Mac. The goal was to
deliver a great employee choice program and strive to achieve the best Mac
program, Previn said. An emerging favorite meant the deployment of 30,000
Macs over the course of the year. But that number has grown. With more
employees choosing Mac than ever before, the company now has 90,000
deployed (with only five admins supporting them), making it the largest Mac
deployment on earth." |

mjg59 - Fixing the IoT isn't going to be easy
"We can't easily fix the already broken devices, we can't easily stop more
broken devices from being shipped and we can't easily guarantee that we
can fix future devices that end up broken. The only solution I see working
at all is to require ISPs to cut people off, and that's going to involve a great
deal of pain. The harsh reality is that this is almost certainly just the tip of
the iceberg, and things are going to get much worse before they get any
better." |

INFORMATION AVOIDANCE: HOW PEOPLE SELECT THEIR OWN REALITY
"Drawing on research in economics, psychology and sociology, Carnegie Mellon University's George Loewenstein, Russell Golman and David Hagmann illustrate how people select their own reality by deliberately avoiding information that threatens their happiness and wellbeing." |

Bolsonaro was the most rejected candidate in the entire election, but he was said to be "in the lead" throughout, in terms of votes. The two concepts are in contradiction, but nobody seems to see the problem in that. This is enabled by a bad voting system and the political culture it fosters
